While we rely tremendously on our eyes, often we take them for granted. It is only when our vision becomes impaired that we fully realize the degree to which we depend on these complex parts of our bodies. Vision problems are mostly slow to develop and painless, so it’s our job to forestall any significant vision issues. When you are seeking an optometrist, it is important to find properly trained and conscientious professionals with the most up-to-date knowledge and equipment. Dr. Anshel and his staff have over 40 years of experience treating a variety of eye issues and are here to serve you.

Q&A with Dr. Anshel

Is Ortho-K right for children?

Children and teens who want to be glasses-free but are too young for LASIK surgery are often good candidates for Ortho-K. If you children participate in sports such as contact sports (basketball, football) or swim, contact lenses and certainly glasses may not be the best option for vision improvement. Students have little difficulty adjusting to the ‘wear-it- while-you- sleep protocol and often parents just need to prompt them in the morning to take them out.

Children who are myopic and their myopia has been getting worse are also good candidates because Ortho-K can slow the advancement of the myopia, which can make for a much more positive vision outcome later in life.

How long does it take for Ortho-K to take effect?

While there is some variation from patient to patient, most patients begin to see the difference in their vision after two days up to a week of wearing the Ortho-K lenses. Patients with milder nearsightedness with see results sooner than those with higher prescriptions. In all cases, patients
report positive changes within a few days although it may take up to two weeks for the maximum effect to occur.

Call our office for an appointment to see if you are eligible for this exciting opportunity.
